Fishing Report September 25, 2006
The weather is good, sunny and hot. The action is everywhere, in th river mouth, outside and offshore on the rip line.
Phil Hoover and his sons Matt and Drew from Naples, Florida fished with Rio Colorado Lodge for 7 days. In those 7 days, they jumped 33 tarpon and boated 13. This is a poor showing from these guys who fish with us often.
Wally Lebrun and his new wife Aurora surprised us all. In two days of trolling, they came up with a total of 16 yellow fin tuna ranging in size from 20 to 35 pounds.
We've had many Japanese guest this month. Our most recent group of 16 anglers from Mogi Tackle and Carpenter Lure Company on their third annual trips scored big on tarpon. They also brought in a nice 25 pound Wahoo and boated several nice snook. The group lost a lot of fish as they insisted on fishing top water and jerk baits with very light tackle in a technique we do usually use here. This fact in mind, they still on Sunday morning alone jumped 6 to 8 big tarpon per boat, and brought 2 to the gaff. Due to the language barriers and lots of smiles, totals were impossible to get, but lots of fish were hooked, and they this group are booked to come back next year!
Attorney Robert E. DIck of Madison, Alabama on his very first tarpon fishing trip boated his first ever tarpon, the fish weighing about 130lbs! Plus he got spooled on a monster snook.
Fishing is good, come join us.
