Fishing Report Ending March 5, 2006
The Man Tech Corporation of Chantilly, VA visited the Lodge on their company road trip. A fishing tournament was organized for March 1 - 3 with Vice President Rick Urban taking the prize for the biggest snook weighing 15lbs. See photo in recent photos gallery. Jeff Naum took the prize for the biggest tarpon at the last minute boating a 202 pounder. See photo in recent photos gallery. The money loosers were Craig Smith, Michael Friend, Walter Ahern and internatonal bad boy Lawrence Quijas whose partial exploits are written about in the book by Tracy Kidder "MY DETACHMENT".
Craig Smith of Roberts, WI who has been hooking more than 6 tarpon per day, boated 5 on March 4th and extended his trip as he cannot leave biting fish! He will never forget his last catch Sunday, a 140 pound tarpon spit his bait and while reeling in, he snagged an old line hanging from the tarpon's mouth. Craig reeled the fish in with the old bait still attached to the tarpon with the only hook that had not rusted out!!
Dr. Daniel Greenson of Oakland, CA and his nephew Dr. Joel Greenson of Ann Harbor, MI jumped 30 tarpon in 3 hours on March 5th. They did not boat any of the 30, but Dr. Dan said "it was the greatest fishing day of my life and I caught nothing". He will be back in September to fish again and boat a big one!!
The TV show Hunting and Fishing the Midwest is here filming this week and already has spectacular footage of 150lb. tarpon being boated after the custom rod broke in half at the end of the fight.
